Be like Khadijah !

Aisha r.a once said,

"I was never jealous of the wives of the Messenger of Allah except for Khadijah.”

(Reported by al-Bukhari in Sahih al-Bukhari, number 3816)

Who is Khadijah? What made her to be so special?

Khadijah binti Khuwaylid r.a is not a foreign name in the history of Islam. She was born in Makkah in the tribe of Quraisyh in 556 A.D. She belonged to a family named Bani Asad. Her mother`s name was Fatimah bint Zayd, and his father, Khuwaylid bin Asad was a well off businessman and a renowned leader of the clan. She was not known for a pious business woman only, rather her role as a supporting wife and a true Muslim is also evident from her life. 

Rasulullah (ﷺ) used to praise her above the rest of the Ummul Mukminun (Mothers of the Believers). She was intelligent, honourable, devoted, virtuous and generous. She is from the people of Paradise. She was Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) first love (and, in her lifetime, only) wife, thus the first person who took shahada and accept Islam.

Behind the narration of every great man,

There is a great woman.

Rasulullah (ﷺ) is the greatest mankind, the man out of imperfection. Behind of the successful history through his lifetime were his wives. Definitely, the one who made the earliest contribution to the account was Khadijah.

The first Muslim woman in history.

The greatest source of comfort.

When Rasulullah (ﷺ) run home with his heart trembling after receiving the first Revelation from Jibril in his indescribable true form, whom did he go to, for support after this shocking encounter? Not to his best friend, Abu Bakr, nor to his uncle, nor to a doctor, nor to a spiritual leader. Yet, he went to his wife.

“… and he informed her of the incident, saying:

‘I fear for myself.’

She said to him:

‘It can’t be. Be happy. I swear by Allah that He shall never humiliate you. By Allah, you join ties of kinship, you speak the truth, you bear people’s burden, you help the destitute, you entertain guests, and you help against the hardships which affect people.’…”

Look at her conviction in what Rasulullah (ﷺ) said. Pause for a moment and note her weighty words. She didn’t doubt him, nor show the slightest hesitation towards the words he uttered.

Her response makes it clear why he sought her out in his need of psychological support. It’s kind, loving, and positive.

Her loyalty and assistance didn’t stop there. When Rasulullah (ﷺ) started preaching Islam, she stood by Him and supported Him in every regard possible. Back then when Islam was first cultivated, the Muslims were small in number, and, in such a trying period, Khadijah remained alongside the Messenger of Allah in support whenever the Quraisyh disclaimed him or contracted hostility towards him. She assisted him in preaching the words of Allah and hence witnessed the division between the people of faith and those of disbelief.

 Dakwah isn’t an easy job. It requires great men and great women work together. Just like Rasulullah and his devoted wife, Khadijah, the perfect example of a solehah Muslim woman we should learn from. Undoubtedly, the world need more Khadijah.

So, be like Khadijah!

May Allah be pleased with her and grant us all ability to be like her.
